UPDATE: In the time since this article was originally posted, Tim has published his novel. It is available now on Amazon.com!
For over ten years, Tim Lewthwaite and I have worked together on a variety of projects, including the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) membership magazine, CONNECT, Tim’s website, www.tlriding.com and a website dedicated to the conservation of Cape Griffon vultures in Africa for the Rare & Endangered Species Trust, www.rest-africa.org. After launching the new platform for my website in April, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Tim has also been working on publishing his first novel, a fictional thriller that uses the brutal facts behind the tragic surge in rhino poaching to bring awareness to this issue. After hearing about this project and reading a few of his short stories on the topic, I knew he would be a perfect fit for the Inspired Writers Series.
I have known about Tim’s deep commitment to conservation and his particular interest in African species for some time, as I have been honored to receive postcards and photos from his annual travels to Namibia. His novel, HORN, tells a tale of violence and greed that spans the United States, Namibia and South Africa with compelling characters and a storyline rife with action and suspense guaranteed to keep you turning the pages. Books like Tim’s are important, because in addition to their entertainment value, they make us aware of issues we may not otherwise be privy to; issues that affect the balance of life on our planet and therefore deserve our attention. The novel is currently in its final round of editing.
Tim has launched a campaign to fund the remainder of the project here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/504478117/horn. Funds raised will go toward the design and layout of the book, as well as marketing and promotion once it is published. For those unfamiliar with Kickstarter fundraisers, money will only exchange hands if the financial goal is met. I encourage you to visit the website, check out the video preview of the book, and support this worthwhile project.
In addition to other great benefits, donors will be eligible to receive copies of these exciting pieces by Tim Lewthwaite:
